As of 1971 an initial period of 5 years in the Netherlands merchant marine started, after which a shift was made to the offshore industry.
Throughout the following 22 years a variety of job positions were taken within the Smit Lloyd bv and Smit International organisation such as chief officer / captain / marine superintendent / salvage commercial logistics officer / supply vessel contracts and area manager / towmaster and project management assistance.
Experience was gained in the fields of:
- General vessel handling during supply duties
- Anchorhandling
- Towage (short and long haul)
- (Marine) Installation projects
- Newbuilding assistance
- Superintendency over fleet units in countries such as China PRC / Angola / Scotland
- Contract management / contract negotiations / marketing & business development.
- Project preparation and execution (inclusive of compilation of procedures / hazid-hazop meetings )
- Vessel inspections/audits
- Salvage
Experience was further enhanced within a position as dedicated Towmaster for OMC bv with special emphasis to rigmoving of jackups and semisubmersible type drilling rigs or accommodation units and continued involvement in marine installation projects.
After 2007 the decision was made to continue as an independent provider of marine services. Tasks -within client organisations- such as Towmaster, Marine Operations Manager and/or Installation Manager were successfully completed throughout and until the end of 2023.
